Red golden retriever

Harley is a big beautiful redhead. The runt of the litter, she's now a gorgeous healthy dog.

Harley was a born model.

I love this photo in particular. Something about it reminds me of the Bush's baked beans commercials. Remember when the premise was that the baked beans company has this secret family recipe and the only one who's heard it is Duke, their dog, and the dog looks at the camera and says "Roll that beautiful bean footage." This scene with the beautiful tree draping down in the late afternoon light over the lake and Harley's slightly mischievous expression reminds me of that!

(After typing all that I looked up the Bush's baked beans commercial and the real Duke was camera-shy, so a professional dog model stepped in! Both were golden retrievers and the Duke in the commercials was a red golden retriever, so that's why Harley reminds me so much of that dog! Mystery solved.)

Harley carries her own leash. She loves having a stick in her mouth or toting her own lead on walks.

One last portrait of Harley. I love this dog. She's so sweet and her red hair really stood out against the green leaves of summer.

But that's not all! Stay tuned to see Part II of her beautiful photo shoot.

Deputy Mattis and Radar

As I wrote about previously, Deputy Mattis from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office has an older brother, Radar. They have matching collars that say their respective names on them and Deputy Metz wanted a portrait showcasing both of their collars. They were good boys and stayed put while Deputy Metz bribed them with stinky delicious treats then stepped aside for a second while I snapped this photo.

This backlit shot really shows how bright and happy this evening was. They did such a good job - we were asking a lot of them!

Radar and Mattis deserved a good break after sitting so long. Radar was super thirsty for his water but Mattis was having none of it - too busy sniffing!

This portrait of the two boys captures their natural expressions. Mattis usually does have his mouth closed and Radar seemed to keep a smile on his face. Good boys!

Another mouth closed from Mattis and happy smile from Radar. I didn't realize Radar is three years old. Deputy Metz had mentioned she had an older dog and I assumed Radar was a senior citizen. Nope, he's barely an adult dog. They're both wonderful!

Big sky dog photography

This week in the 52-week pet photography challenge the theme is "Sky" and this first photo alone is one of my favorites for the dramatic sunset and sweeping colorful clouds overhead.  Look at these two gorgeous hunting dogs!

Some dogs are treat-motivated. Some praise-motivated. Some toy-motivated. These two beautiful German short-haired pointers were ball-motivated. BALL! They never got tired of the ball squeaking or the ball being tossed. Their mom even said it was a good thing no kids playing sports were around because we'd have lost them.

We started out a little before sunset to make sure we got the wiggles out. Basil is 9 and Penny is 7. Basil, on the right, has so much energy.

I loved how they both turned to bask in the sun as it went down. It was 74 and mostly sunny today. It couldn't have been a nicer evening for doggie portraits!

These two were a little distracted at times but I think it added to the photos because we got some long, lean lines as their heads turned.

One last shot to share for now. I love how Penny's profile points right toward the setting sun. Appropriate for a German short-haired pointer!
