Christmas dogs at home

CJ and Boo are adorable pups. CJ is a four-year-old Bichon Frise and a Boo is a two-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Boo gazed over at his mom while I set up this beautiful portrait in front of the Christmas tree. Look at that sweet face!

CJ and Boo's family wanted holiday portraits in their home that included the couch in some way. They told me that CJ and Boo both liked to sit on the back of the sofa and keep watch. Each dog has a regular spot - it's funny that when we went to take their portraits they swapped their usual spots.

What you can't see are the leashes, because although this pair usually hangs out on the back of their couch, for some reason they were too excited to sit still. I had met the family in the pre-consultation in their home a couple weeks prior to the photo shoot so I wasn't a total stranger, but it was still very exciting to have their portraits taken!

These two really love being on the couch, as seen here. Both their leashes were stretched to each side as their owners and I were bribing them like there was no tomorrow with yummy stinky treats and interesting noisy toys. At one point CJ had buried his entire head into my bag of goodies. He probably could have fit inside and would have been content to sniff for hours.

This looks like a studio shot but it was taken in the living room, too. We tried a lot of different techniques to get awesome portraits of this pair.

One last photo to share for now. Boo and CJ's family requested a photo of them looking out the front door. They like to watch for the mailman and bark, naturally. When their mom went to get the mail she spotted them and thought it would make an adorable picture. She emailed me and made sure we could include that. I like that we got their Christmas decor in there - two white polars bear cubs to match the two little white pups.

Bella's Christmas tree

Bella only wanted to play but she paused for a second in front of the tree to let me take her holiday portrait. After that she was right back to important business - squeaky toys!

Marysville dog photography

If you've read back to other posts in my blog you know that I love boxers. I love their faces and their sweet disposition. I get very excited when I spot a boxer around town. My husband, on the other hand, loves German shepherds. He's totally smitten. The stars aligned when we met Valerie at Wag Fest and were so excited when she told us about her boxer and her German shepherd--Rocky, the old man, and Setimo, the younger brother. Valerie wanted to schedule a session at home in a familiar setting. She and her husband live in Marysville so it was a bit up the road from Columbus but I was more than happy to make the dogs feel more comfortable. Meet the sweetheart boxer, Rocky.

When I told Valerie the shot I wanted to take, I said 'Now let's get one of you snuggling your boyfriend.' Her husband laughed and said yep, that's what she calls him.

Maybe one of my favorite pictures I've taken in a long time. I love her crinkled nose and eyes because I do the same thing when I'm not sure where doggie kisses are going to land! It's the look of happiness and the connection between these two that totally makes this photograph.

Okay, enough about Rocky. I have to give Setimo some love because look at this handsome boy hamming it up for the camera.

Look at this good looking crew! As we were in position for this shot, their little neighbor who's just three years old started excitedly shouting their names to get their attention. It was really cute, and what well-behaved dogs to work through the distractions.

Another shot of sweet Rocky. His people love that bubble hanging off his jowl in this picture. I had thought of taking it out in post-processing of the photos but decided against it. I'm glad I left it in. They were delighted with this shot and said that's completely Rocky.

Finally, this was a shot I did in the middle of their living room. I love how it turned out. Rocky and Setimo were so cooperative and I'm thrilled that their humans love the photos.
